BSE figures so far this year have exceeded 200 for the first time, with the announcement of 13 more cases this week bringing the total to 204.
So far this month there have been 33 cases of the disease, while there were only 25 for the whole of November last year. The additional cases are being found by more active searches in sick and casualty animals which are not destined for the food chain.
