Columbia - The US Supreme Court yesterday rejected an 11th-hour appeal seeking to block the executions of two half-brothers who have spent the past 21 years on South Carolina's death row for a 1977 murder.

The decision was handed down two hours before J.D. Gleaton and Larry Gilbert were to be strapped to a gurney and executed by lethal injection, one after the other, in the death chamber of the Broad River prison in Columbia.
