Only rough half the British public believes the bombing campaign against Afghanistan is justified, according to an opinion poll published today.
An ICM poll for the Guardianfound 51 per cent believed the campaign had been justified against 29 per cent who thought it had not.
Support was greater among men, running at 62 per cent, compared with 41 per cent of women who thought the campaign justified.
Overall approval for military action by the US and Britain has picked up four points to 66 per cent since the "wobble" in support three weeks ago, although it has not returned to the peak of 74 per cent immediately following September 11th.
ICM interviewed a random sample of 1,004 adults aged over 18 by telephone between November 16th and 18th.
