A 61-year-old man from Britain was being questioned last night after customs officers in Rosslare seized cocaine with an estimated street value of €430,000.

Six kilos of cocaine were found concealed behind the back seat of a British-registered vehicle, which had disembarked from a ferry that had arrived from the French port of Cherbourg.

The man was detained and taken to Wexford Garda station where he was being questioned last night under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.

Under the legislation, he can be detained for up to seven days. The vehicle in which the drugs were found was also seized.

Yesterday's seizure comes less than a month after officers from the Customs National Drugs Team seized cocaine valued at over €13 million in three separate swoops within a period of 24 hours.

In the first of the seizures on July 27th, officers uncovered 160 kilos of cocaine on board a catamaran which had arrived in Kinsale from the Caribbean. The estimated value of the drugs was €13 million.

Hours earlier eight kilos of herbal cannabis valued at €16,000 were seized at Dublin airport together with one kilo of cocaine at Rosslare port, valued at €80,000.
