The Bloody Sunday inquiry has granted anonymity to British soldiers present in Derry during the shooting of 14 people in 1972. Under a series of rulings ahead of next year's hearings, the inquiry said in a statement yesterday it had no choice but to protect the identities of firing and non-firing soldiers following a Court of Appeal ruling.
