British commandos have entered Kabul, where they will spearhead the UN peacekeeping force's six-month mission to protect the new interim government.
A convoy of military vehicles carrying 80 Royal Marines has driven into the city under a helicopter escort from Bagram air base.
The convoy was delayed several hours as it waited for Afghan dignitaries to fly into Bagram and be escorted into the capital for tomorrow's installation of Mr Mr Hamid Karzai, a Pashtun tribal leader from southern Afghanistan, and his cabinet.
