A British soldier has been killed in southern Iraq while trying to dismantle munitions.

A British soldier has been killed in southern Iraq while trying to dismantle munitions.

A British army spokesman said the soldier, whose name and rank have not been disclosed, was a bomb disposal expert.

Excluding the latest casualty, 25 British soldiers have diedin the 13-day-old war so far - five in action and 20 in accidents or "friendly fire". Twenty-four died in the 1991 Gulf War.
