Britain said today it wassending around 1,200 extra troops to Iraq to help stabilise thecountry after a wave of attacks against US and British forcesand other targets.

It said the reinforcements would be drawn from the SecondBattalion Light Infantry and First Battalion Royal GreenJackets.
The extra personnel boost the 10,000-strong British force bsed in Iraq in response to the increased terrorist bombings and attacks on coalition forces.
Some 120 servicemen were sent to Iraq from Cyprus at the weekend, amid concerns that the armed forces are being over-stretched. Fifty UK soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the end of major combat operations.
