The Irish Bridge Union's preliminary trials to select an open team for the European Championships in Malta next June resulted in the following going forward to the knockout stages in the Regent, Dublin, at the weekend. 1, Dr G.M. Keaveney, R. Timlin, T. Garvey, J. Carroll 94 victory points; 2, K. Hayes, P. McCarthy, T. MacCormac, J. Clarson 83; 3, P. O Briain, T. Roche, P. Pigot, D. Mac Aonghusa 81. They will be joined by the seeded team, T. Hanlon, Dr H. McGann, P. Walshe, N Toibin. The semifinal matches are: Keaveney v Hayes and Hanlon v O Briain.
