A Bray man was jailed for life yesterday after he was convicted of the murder of a man he stabbed in a pub in the town in 1999.
There was uproar in the Central Criminal Court as the convicted man, Richard O'Carroll, shouted at the jury and then verbally abused the judge.
O'Carroll (31), of Greenpark Road, Bray, Co Wicklow, and of Cois Sleibhe, Southern Cross Road, Bray, was found guilty of the murder of Keith Fortune (27), of Hazelwood Upper, Dargle Road, Bray. Mr Fortune died after he was stabbed four times by O'Carroll at the William Dargan Inn, Goldsmith Terrace, on Quinsboro Road, Bray, on May 2nd, 1999.
Following conviction, Garda sources said O'Carroll had 20 previous convictions, some of which were for assault, including a sentence of three years for maliciously wounding another man. His counsel had argued the killing was self-defence.
