The Garda has named the 10-year-old boy who died after being badly

burned when a can containing chemicals ignited at a building site in Cork yesterday evening.

He was Steven Long from Maryborough Hill in Douglas.

Steven’s clothes are believed to have caught fire after the can of wood preservative exploded as he and other children were thought to have been playing at the building site on the Rochestown Road at around 6 p.m.

He was transferred to Cork University Hospital where he died at 7.00 a.m. this morning.
