A judge has ordered a 14-year-old boy to obey a curfew after he was accused of stealing property from a boat moored at Malahide marina in north Dublin.
Garda Suzanne Lavin told Judge Michael Coghlan yesterday that the boy made “no reply” when he was charged with stealing a television, a torch, a sea fishing rod and a portable heater from a vessel at the marina on Thursday.
Gareth Noble, defending, told Dublin Children’s Court that the young boy has been in voluntary care since February.
The teenager is living in a residential care home and was accompanied to his hearing by a member of staff from his accommodation.
Mr Noble said the HSE had concerns about its ability to keep the boy safe; there had been a number of applications to place him in a secure childcare facility but they were “turned down”.
Judge Coghlan imposed bail conditions stating that the boy must obey a 10pm to 8am curfew at his current care home and he remanded him on bail to appear again next month.
