The death of an 11-year-old boy in Tallaght, Dublin, was being treated as a "tragic accident" by gardaí yesterday. John Downesreports.

The body of the young boy, believed to be of Nigerian origin, was discovered at approximately 7.30pm on Thursday at Hazelgrove Court apartments.

A spokesman for the Garda Press Office yesterday confirmed that gardaí were investigating what appeared to be a "tragic accident".

It is thought the boy may have accidentally been strangled while playing in a room in the apartment.

A postmortem examination was due to be conducted by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy in Tallaght hospital yesterday.
