The Revenue Commissioners have seized an oil-laundering plant in Co Monoaghan which is estimated to have cost the Exchequer  €1 million a year in lost revenue.

Tax inspectors seized 10,000 litres of diesel, equipment and a vehicle near Emyvale in Co Monaghan last night.

The oil laundry had the capacity to launder 8,000 litres a day with a potential loss of revenue amounting to €1 million a year.

Two people were questioned at the plant, and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Office of the Revenue Commissioners said.
