Bord na Móna workers to continue two-day stoppage

About 1,500 Bord na Móna workers will continue their two-day stoppage around the midlands today

About 1,500 Bord na Móna workers will continue their two-day stoppage around the midlands today. Workers are picketing Bord na Móna plants over a 3.5 per cent pay claim due under the Towards 2016 transitional agreement.

The action by members of Siptu, Unite and the TEEU has affected peat harvesting in Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, Kildare, Roscommon and Longford.

A Bord na Móna spokesman expressed disappointment at the strike and issued an apology to any customers inconvenienced by the stoppage.

He claimed that contingency plans were working.

The two-day stoppage is part of an escalating industrial action by union members who picketed during a day’s stoppage earlier this month.
