The Trinity College authorities have rejected a request to allow part of the Book of Kells go on display this summer in the US.
The request had come from the Library of Congress in Washington.
The Gospel According to St Mark, one of the four books contained in the 1,200-year-old illuminated manuscript, is on display at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, where it will remain until May 7th. Since the manuscript was taken to Australia, it has emerged that the treasure has sustained some loss of pigment.
