Rock star Bono has come out strongly in favour of a Yes vote in the forthcoming Nice Treaty referendum.

Speaking on the Today with Vincent Browne programme on RTÉ Radio 1, he said: "When I go to meetings with politicians in Europe, it's unbelievable, they always bring it up. They cannot believe that Ireland did what they did on the Nice Treaty, and I noticed a lot of politicians getting very angry."

Bono said his response to these politicians was that people "didn't understand the issues. If they did they would have voted Yes".

"Nice maybe not as nice but I think to vote No is gonna make Ireland look very selfish", said Bono during a lengthy interview which mainly concerned his involvement in the Jubilee 2000 international debt cancellation campaign.
