San Francisco Giants outfielder Barry Bonds broke the single-season home-run record on Friday smashing his 71st and 72nd home runs against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Bonds broke the record, set by Mark McGwire of the St Louis Cardinals in 1998, in the first inning when he smashed a two-out 1-0 pitch off Los Angeles pitcher Chan-Ho Park in the first innings to make the score 5-1 to Los Angeles.
The 37-year-old outfielder then repeated the dose in the third inning. Both of the homers were solo shots.
He tied the record on Thursday when he hit his 70th off rookie lefthander Wifredo Rodriguez in the ninth inning of a 10-2 victory over the Houston Astros.
McGwire's 70-homer season broke Roger Maris' record of 61, which had stood since 1961.
The homer moved Bonds to 566 on the career home run list.
