MOSCOW - The deputy prime minister of the south Russian republic of Dagestan escaped an apparent assassination attempt yesterday when a roadside bomb killed three people and wounded three others, Interfax news agency said.

It said the bomb was placed by the side of the road in the regional capital, Makhachkala, and set off by remote control as deputy Prime Minister Said Amirov's jeep drove past.
