Coastguard teams searching for a diver missing since yestersday off the Mayo coast have recovered a body.

Officials have yet to confirm if the body, found at 7.30am this morning, is that of the missing French man.

The alarm was first raised at 8pm yesterday when the man, who is understood to be in his early 20s, was reported missing in Clew Bay near to Westport.

He had been snorkelling with a friend when he disappeared. Today's discovery was made close to where the diver went missing, a coastguard spokeswoman said.

Last night's search ended without success before being resumed at first light today.

Westport Coast Guard and the Irish Coast Guard helicopter, along with the Achill RNLI lifeboat, were involved in the searches.
