The body of a 22-year-old man was taken from the Boyne river in Drogheda last night, writes Elaine Keogh. The man, originally from Pearse Park, jumped into the river yesterday evening after breaking windows in the nearby Garda station and attempting to hit a garda with a brick.

He had gone there after refusing treatment at the Lourdes Hospital for a head injury. Garda Ruairi Nestor jumped in after him, but he sank from sight. Members of Drogheda River Rescue recovered his body.
