A three-year-old child, who was punched and bitten by another child in a creche, has been awarded more than €13,000 damages in a court settlement.

Carl Hanahoe, counsel for Jack Regan, now aged five, told the Circuit Civil Court yesterday that the boy had been assaulted while attending a child-care facility at Blanchardstown Shopping Centre.

He said Jack, of Meadowbrook Avenue, Maynooth, Co Kildare, had been in the creche in September 2004 when he was punched by another child and bitten on his back.

The facility had been maintained by William and Kay Cogan, trading as Cogan Childcare, of Maryborough Hill, Douglas, Cork. They had offered an all-in settlement of €13,283.

Mr Hanahoe said that Jack had been given vaccination injections because of the bites on his back.
