Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law is due to appear in a New York City courtroom to face a charge he plotted against Americans.
Prosecutors say Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, alleged to be a former spokesman for bin Laden and a senior al-Qaeda member, lauded the attacks of September 11 2001, and warned there would be more.
Mr Abu Ghaith is to appear before a federal court in Manhattan to enter a plea to one count of conspiracy to kill Americans. His lawyer had no comment on the case.
Mr Abu Ghaith, who was born in Kuwait, was captured in Jordan over the last week, according to US authorities.
US president Barack Obama’s administration has sought to charge senior al-Qaeda suspects in American federal courts, instead of military tribunals.
However, Republicans in Congress do not want high-threat terror suspects brought into the United States.
