ROME - A military appeals court met yesterday to consider the fate of a war crimes trial which has gripped Italy. The court was reviewing allegations that at least one of the three judges presiding had favoured the defendant, former German SS captain, Mr Erich Priebke.
If the appeals court finds bias, the trial, which had been nearing an end, would have to start again with a new beach, probably in September. A ruling is expected in a few days.
