Tirana - Albanian opposition leader and former president Sali Berisha began talks yesterday with the country's right-wing parties to try to persuade them to boycott parliament.

On Sunday, Berisha's Democratic Party decided to set up a "front against dictatorship" and end all contacts with the government after sometimes violent street protests against the Prime Minister, Mr Fatos Nano.

Mr Teodor Laco, who heads the Social Democrat Union, said any hopes of change had now faded and that the only way forward for the country was a boycott of parliament.
