It was the warmest June in 35 years at Met Éireann's weather station in Belmullet, Co Mayo, the meteorological service said today.
Releasing figures for last month, it said it was the warmest June for 13 years at several weather stations across the State.
Temperatures remained above 10 degrees throughout almost all of the second half of the month, meaning minimum temperatures overall were close to two degrees above normal and were the highest on record for June in many places, Met Éireann said.
Rainfall totals were a little above normal near Atlantic coasts, but it was a dry month generally with only around half of the normal June rainfall recorded in parts of the east and midlands. At many stations it was the driest June since 1996.
The number of wet days (days with 1mm or more rainfall) during the month was below normal everywhere. There were between seven and 12 wet days recorded compared with the normal range for June of between 10 and 16.
Sunshine totals for June were a little above average over the south of the country but it was a dull month in most places, especially in the north. It was the dullest June at most stations for between six and 11 years.
At most stations there were no gale gusts during the month (gusts of 34 knots or more) and the highest gust of the month, 43 knots (80m.p.h.), was measured at Belmullet on the 22nd.
