Postal workers in Belfast today again ignored a call from their trade union to call off their strike in the city.
Communication Workers' Union representative Owen Davey confirmed that at a meeting at about 7am today the postal workers decided to continue their wildcat action, which has severely disrupted deliveries in Belfast.
Mr Davey said: "We again repudiated the action and asked them to go back to work.
"We pointed out the action was illegal but they are adamant.
"They say their resolve is strong.
"They are staying out until Royal Mail concede to what is a reasonable request for an independent employee and industrial relations review."
The strike was sparked last week in the main Tomb Street delivery office over claims of harassment in the workplace and concerns over the disciplinary procedures.
Meanwhile mail watchdog Postwatch today criticised Royal Mail over the way members of the public and small businesses were being kept informed about their post during the strike.
Julie-Anne McMaster, for Postwatch, said customers waiting for health appointments should contact their doctors or hospitals, those waiting on benefits should get in touch with social security offices, and people waiting for credit card bills should ring the companies to avoid unnecessary interest charges.
"We don't feel they've been giving enough information, especially at the moment," she said.
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has offered to mediate in the dispute.
