The funeral took place yesterday in Belfast of Sister Genevieve O'Farrell, regarded as an inspirational educationalist who is credited with founding the largest girls' secondary school in Britain and the North.
She died last weekend following a lengthy illness.
A native of Co Offaly, Sister Genevieve, who was 78, was a former principal of St Louise's on the Falls Road in west Belfast.
A member of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul, she moved to Belfast in the 1950s.
She was well known for standing up for her pupils' right to the best education.
She was awarded the OBE and became a member of the Senate at Queen's University Belfast and a BBC governor.
She retired in 1988 and, after suffering a stroke six years later, was looked after by nuns at her home in Belfast.
