Basketball court to be sole beneficiary

An outdoor basketball court in Dublin is to be resurfaced using material from thousands of old sports shoes. The joint project involves the sportswear company Nike and the Marathon group of sports shops. The public court at Fairview will be covered with a rubber compound ground out of 9,000 old shoes which the organisers hope to collect in bins provided at Marathon outlets.
