Soccer:Fulham defender and Northern Ireland international Chris Baird has signed a new deal with the Craven Cottage outfit until the summer of 2013.

Baird, who was signed from Southampton in the summer of 2007, played a key role as Fulham fought their way to the Europa League final last season.

He made his first appearance under new manager Mark Hughes at the weekend when he appeared as a second-half substitute in the 2-1 win over Wolves.

The 28-year-old showed his versatility last season by filling a midfield role while Dickson Etuhu and Danny Murphy were missing through injury.

Baird began his career with Ballymena United before joining Southampton and made his Saints debut in 2003.
