More than 300 Guinness family members and friends gathered at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin on Saturday night to celebrate the 30th birthday of Rory Guinness.

It marks the first time in 245 years that a family gathering was held on the grounds of the original home of the Guinness family and world-famous brewery.

The site has been the home of the Guinness family since 1759 when Arthur Guinness moved his home and business from Leixlip to its current location in St James's Gate.

Joining Rory in the celebration were members of the Iveagh family, including his brother Ned, the Earl of Iveagh, and his wife, Lady Clare, along with Lady Miranda Iveagh, who welcomed numerous family members and friends from around the world.

Mr Guinness, who was born and raised in Dublin and is the eighth generation in the legendary brewing line, chose the family's original home for his birthday celebration as well as a surprise announcement: a marriage proposal to his girlfriend, Ms Mira Maini, in the Storehouse's Gravity Bar as guests arrived.

Although the family does not have any direct management role in Diageo Ireland, they are active in the local community through the Iveagh Trust; they farm in Co Meath, and operate their own businesses.
