LONDON - Children who are exposed to lead as babies continue to suffer the effects for years afterwards, showing lower intelligence into their teens, Australian researchers reported yesterday.

Dr Sbilu Tong at the Scientific Industrial Researching in Adelaide and colleagues studied 375 children born in and around Port Pirie, a town with a lead smelter. All had been exposed to lead in infancy and were now 11 to 13 years old.
