An Austrian bank clerk got it badly wrong at the start of the euro era by selling bundles of the new currency worth €908 each for only €36.35. From midnight, Austria's National Bank sold euro kits containing bills and coins worth €36.35, the equivalent of 500 schillings, but in Graz, a teller inadvertently sold bundles of 25 packets for only 500 schillings each instead of 12,500, losing 12,000 schillings or €872 euros on each sale.
