Career:From Tralee, Co Kerry, he is an expert in constitutional, commercial and competition law. Described as unassuming, practical and extremely hard working, he has been involved in a number of libel trials.

He studied law at UCD and Cambridge and took silk in 1991. He is not a known political person but he acted successfully for Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in his libel action against businessman Denis "Starry" O'Brien, and former tánaiste Michael McDowell in his successful planning permission case against Roscommon County Council.

He also represented a number of newspapers when journalist Ian Bailey took a libel action related to the coverage of the Sophie Toscan du Plantier murder case.
