Kiev - An assassination attempt against the Russian President, Mr Vladimir Putin, was foiled last month at a summit of former Soviet nations in Yalta, the head of Ukraine's security services, Mr Leonid Derkach, was cited as saying by Interfax yesterday.
He said the Ukrainian law enforcement authorities had "received information about an assassination bid against Russian President Vladimir Putin" during the informal August 18th-19th summit.
Several suspects believed to be preparing an attempt on Mr Putin's life had been arrested in Ukraine's Crimea peninsula following a tip-off from intelligence agencies in other countries, he said.
