Ankara - A senior prosecutor, Mr Sabah Kanadoglu, told Turkey's Constitutional Court yesterday he was seeking the closure of the Islamist main opposition party on grounds it was the continuation of the banned Welfare Party.

Markets are closely following the case against the Virtue Party, fearful that a ban could bring about by-elections and cause political instability as the government implements economic reforms to overcome financial crisis.
