A series of arson and petrol bomb attacks in Newry are said by republican sources to be have been orchestrated by an Official IRA faction. Shots were fired in some attacks, and republican sources say that figures associated with the Official IRA in Belfast were behind the attacks.

Last night an RUC spokesman confirmed that a possible connection between the various attacks is being investigated.
