A 25-year-old man is critical in hospital after being found lying unconscious in north Belfast. The Police Service of Northern Ireland said he had suffered extensive head injuries.

The man was discovered in the Clifton Park Avenue area around 7 a.m. yesterday.

Police sources said they were keeping an open mind about the attack, and a sectarian motive could not be confirmed or denied.

British army experts have defused a pipe-bomb outside the home of a leading loyalist, Mr John Gregg, in Nendrum Gardens in Rathcoole, on the outskirts of north Belfast. His house had also been targeted last week. The attack is the latest incident in an ongoing internal UDA feud.
