THE FUNERAL of the 20-year-old NUI Galway student who died following a violent assault in Mullingar before Christmas will take place on Friday at midday.

The family of Andrew Dolan from Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, had hoped to hold his funeral today, but it had to be delayed when his body was only released from the mortuary at Beaumont Hospital yesterday afternoon.

A removal will take place tomorrow evening to St Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon, at 7pm.

Mr Dolan died in the hospital at 7.30pm on January 1st after being on life support since December 23rd when he was assaulted outside a takeaway in Mullingar in the early hours of the morning.

Two men, aged 20 and 21, and a woman aged 19 have been questioned and gardaí also examined CCTV evidence. The three were released without charge and a file will be sent to the DPP.

Tributes continued to pour into a Facebook page set up in Mr Dolan’s honour.

Leitrim GAA issued a statement extending its “deepest sympathy” to the family. The Dolans own the Bush Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon which sponsors the county’s senior football team.
