A man with a history of arson who started three fires in an apartment block at the Howth Road in Dublin has been jailed for five years by Judge Cyril Kelly at the Circuit Criminal Court.

Denis Murnane's premeditated arson at Venetian Hall on February 17th, 1997, caused £18,000 damage to the apartment block, as well as £850 damage to a motorcycle and £150 to a car. Murnane (31), of Bayside Boulevard South, Sutton, started the fires as 12 people in the block were sleeping or getting ready for work, Det Garda Tom Lillis said.
