A man in his 30s last night remained in custody in Swords, Co Dublin, following his arrest in connection with the murder last month of the Latvian mother of two, Baiba Saulite.
The man, believed to be from Lebanon, was arrested yesterday morning in Tallaght and can be detained for up to 36 hours. It is thought he is being held on suspicion of withholding information about the murder of Ms Saulite, who was shot dead in the hallway of her home in Swords on November 19th.
In a separate investigation into the murder of Gerard Byrne last week at the International Financial Services Centre, Dublin, detectives believe a group of English shoppers may be able to provide information on the killing.
Gardaí believe the group may have been in Dublin on a shopping trip and that they passed the Mace supermarket at Lower Mayor Street, where the shooting happened, just minutes before the attack. It is thought Mr Byrne was shot dead as part of a feud between rival gangs.
In Kilmainham, gardaí want to talk to the occupants of two cars involved in minor traffic accident on Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, near where Edward McCabe was found badly beaten on December 1st and died a week later.
