Two armed men tied up staff at a Dublin supermarket before making away with a substantial amount of cash shortly after 6am this morning.

The men, armed with a knife and what is believed to a be a gun, gained access to the Superquinn store in Knocklyon via an entry at the rear of the premises.

They threatened and then tied up two members of staff before escaping with a substantial quantity of cash in €10 and €5 denominations.

The men made their getaway on foot in the direction of the adjoining school grounds.

Neither staff member was injured during the incident and the scene has been preserved for a technical examined.

Gardaí in Rathfarnham are advising people who notice cash transactions with large amounts of €5 and €10 notes to contact them.

Any witnesses who saw unusual activity around Idrone Avenue between 6am and 6.15am are asked to contact Rathfarnham Garda Station on 6666500.
