Armed raiders have escaped with an undisclosed sum of money from a post office in Limerick city.

Armed raiders have escaped with an undisclosed sum of money from a post office in Limerick city.

The incident happened at 10.15 a.m. this morning in Upper Pennywell, Garryowen.

It is understood two men armed with hatchets broke down the interior door of the office and grabbed a sum of money before making their getaway in a car.

No one was injured in the raid. The car was later found burnt out in the Park area of the city.
