Armed police raided the headquarters of Zimbabwe's opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) today, detaining scores of victims of political violence, the party said.
"The police have just raided [MDC headquarters] Harvest House and, as we speak, they're taking in hundreds of victims of political violence who had taken shelter in the building," an MDC spokesman said.
The MDC said police took away more than 60 victims of the violence, in which it says nearly 90 of its supporters have been killed by militias backing President Robert Mugabe. Those detained included women and children.
