Argos has taken 17 jewellery lines off the shelves pending the outcome of an investigation into hallmarking, writes Anne Byrne.
This follows claims gold hallmarks were illegally put on nine-carat rings and pendants while they were being made. Argos said in a statement that the quality of its gold was not in question. The investigation relates to the standard of hallmarking.
However, posters have been placed in Argos stores in the UK and Ireland and customers who purchased the items will be offered a refund or a replacement, said a spokeswoman for the company.
