The family of a man killed in a car theft accident have asked a judge not to jail the driver of the stolen car.
Mr Brendan Devoy was the passenger in the stolen car when it crashed into a lampost and spun into a parked car. His brother, sister and girlfriend all told Judge Elizabeth Dunne at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that they did not want to see the driver, Liam Heavey, go to prison.
Ms Linda Carroll said she was Mr Devoy's girlfriend for 17 years and they had four children. Since he died, Heavey had looked after her children. Heavey (25), St Ronan's Drive, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and criminal damage at Braemor Road, Churchtown, on January 26th, 1999.
Judge Dunne said she wanted to see psychological and neurological reports on Heavey before sentencing on October 6th.
