Gardaí investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Co Westmeath yesterday have appealed for witnesses.

A woman died after her car left the N52 Mullingar-to-Kilbeggan road at Carrick, Mullingar and when through a fence before ending up in a field at around 11am.

She was later named by gardaí as Bernadette Troy (38) of Ballinasragh, Lusmagh, Banagher, Co Offaly.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was travelling in the area between 10.45am and 11.15am and who may have seen Ms Troy's 03-Dublin-registered black Kia Sedona to contact them.
