GARDAI have ruled out robbery as a motive for the murder of the Tralee woman, Ms Margaret O'Sullivan, who was found stabbed in her flat last week.

They have appealed for a man and woman seen near the flat in McCowan's Lane on Sunday, August 18th, to come forward as a possible witnesses. The couple were standing near a black or navy coloured jeep around 1.30 p.m. A tall elderly man seen walking on Upper Castle Street some time later has already come forward.

Gardai say there was no sign of forcible entry to the flat and technical examination has revealed no evidence of theft. They have yet to find a murder weapon.

Insp Barry O'Rourke said the Garda investigation has been "very intensive" with a large number of people interviewed. They still want to hear from anyone who may have spoken to Mrs O'Sullivan - known locally as Hannah Walsh - either in person or on the telephone that weekend.

They also want to hear from anyone who was in McCowan's Lane or Upper Castle Street from 10 a.m. on Saturday to 12.30 p.m. on Monday, August 19th.

The body of Mrs O'Sullivan was discovered by her 12 year old son, Eric, on Monday when he called around to wish her a happy birthday. The woman was separated and had three other children.
