The Northern Ireland Workers' Party has called for the establishment of an "anti-sectarian police unit", to be set up within the new Northern Ireland Police Service, aimed at "combating sectarianism and those who support and propagate it".

According to the party, the unit would deal exclusively with complaints or information relating to sectarian attacks or intimidation and would be run along similar lines as the anti-football hooligan unit of the police in England.
