Warsaw - Poland is on the point of reimposing a tough anti-abortion law, pleasing the Catholic Church but appalling many women's rights activists.

Parliament, where centre-right, mostly pro-church groups have dominated since September polls, was almost certain to sanction the scrapping of a law passed last year which allowed abortion for social reasons such as economic hardship.
